Founded by the Green Building Council of Australia in 2003, Green Star is an internationally recognised rating system developed for the Australian environment that sets the standard for healthy and resilient buildings and communities.

Sentinel Australia’s The Elements by Kinleaf Build to Rent apartment community in Subiaco (Perth), Western Australia, successfully achieved a 5 Star Green Star Design & As Built v1.3 certified rating from the GBCA for its second phase. In 2021, the first phase of The Elements was also certified as the first Carbon Neutral Certified apartment building in Australia, following Sentinel's close work with the GBCA and Climate Active to pioneer a certification methodology for the Build to Rent model that acknowledges the sector's unique potential for ongoing energy leadership in the residential sector.

Sustainability features at The Elements include electric car charging stations, photovoltaic systems for common area energy usage, rainwater and greywater recycling systems, specialty waste streams, access to centralised geothermal systems, energy efficient appliances provided in all apartments, occupancy sensors and an embedded metering network.

Sentinel Australia continues to target minimum 5-Star Green Star ratings across its portfolio of high-quality Build to Rent communities and is participating in the Early Access Program for the GBCA’s new Green Star Buildings – Apartments Pathway. Participants in the Early Access Program are working closely with the GBCA to help inform the direction of the pathway.
